4K UHD/50P 4:2:2 10-bit support with HEVC
A 1.0-Type CMOS sensor and DIGIC processor produce professional 4K UHD images in 4:2:2 10-bit, utilising Canon's new and efficient XF-HEVC file format for smaller files that can be recorded direct to SD cards. Multiple recording formats are also supported including XF-AVC and high frame rates up to 120P.
New and efficient XF-HEVC file format
Canon's new XF-HEVC file format efficiently handles large 4K UHD/50P 4:2:2 10-bit data files by using the MXF wrapper and HEVC/H.265 compression to reduce file sizes by approx. 2x that of H.264/AVC. With data rates now at up to 160Mbps, this makes it a more efficient 4K UHD (or Full HD) format for storage and transmission/transfer, enabling 4:2:2 10-bit files to be recorded directly to SD cards.
Slow motion with high quality 4:2:2 10-bit
A high frame of rates up to 120P in Full HD 4:2:2 10-bit means it's possible to capture slow motion footage beautifully in great detail.
Multiple recording formats

Simple HDR workflow
4K Camcorder XF705 can record internally in two HDR formats, using HLG or PQ and features extensive HDR assist functions that aid the user to control the exposure for HDR shooting.
Internal recording of HLG/PQ
4K Camcorder XF705 allows the user to record HDR files directly to SD cards using either Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) or Perceptual Quantization (PQ). When recording XF-HEVC (4:2:2 10-bit) select HLG or PQ in the Customer Picture (CP) menu, to enable a quick HDR delivery.
HDR production with SDR output
Using the advanced 12G-SDI and HDMI interfaces, 4K Camcorder XF705 is capable of outputting an SDR signal at the same time as recording an HDR file internally to an SD card, enabling a simultaneous HDR/SDR production. In addition, during HDR/SDR simultaneous recording, the gain on the SDR signal can be adjusted relative to the HDR exposure level, providing correct exposure levels for both signals on output.
HDR shoot assist functions
An auto iris optimises the exposure for HDR shooting to prevent over exposure in bright areas, and has an AE shift function for more challenging scenes, while a WFM and zebra pattern assists the operator in manual mode. Additionally, 4K Camcorder XF705 has a high luminance LCD monitor for checking the HDR images, while the EVF's viewing assist function allows users to view approximated images recorded in HLG and PQ on the SDR viewfinder.
Supporting Canon Log 3
Users not wishing to capture in HDR can shoot footage with Canon Log 3 applied, and still benefit from a wide dynamic range for high flexibility in post-production.
Advanced 12G-SDI and IP streaming
With four times the bandwidth of 3G-SDI, the 12G-SDI terminal is capable of sending high quality uncompressed data over a single professional interface, while a built-in Ethernet port enables 4K IP streaming.
Single cable 4K UHD/50P output
Featuring both a 12G-SDI and HDMI interfaces, full 4K UHD/50P image data can be output to compatible external recorders/displays using just one cable, making it easier and simpler to setup, especially for live events.
4K UHD IP streaming and FTP transfer
With a built-in Ethernet port and HEVC support, 4K Camcorder XF705 is able to stream 4K UHD HDR images over an IP network, or allows fast and convenient FTP transfer of files direct from the camcorder to external workflow environments.

Therefore, the 4K Camcorder XF705 features Canon's innovative Dual Pixel CMOS AF focusing system that provides features to ensure both autofocus and manual focusing is accurate and reliable, giving users the confidence to open-up the aperture, track moving subjects or focus pull with minimal effort.
Dual Pixel CMOS AF - How it works
Dual Pixel CMOS AF is a sensor-based, phase detection Auto Focus (AF) technology designed to provide smooth, high-performance focus tracking and fast autofocus acquisition. It is a unique, Canon-developed technology, that uses two photo diodes per pixel for autofocus and combines them for recording video. This allows accurate focus to be maintained, even with moving subjects, which is vital for 4K UHD capture and makes single operator shooting more efficient.
Touchscreen control and object tracking
The 4K Camcorder XF705 4-inch touchscreen allows you to perform focus point selection over 80% vertical/horizontal of the imaging area. A selected object in the frame will be tracked as it moves within it.
Face Detection and tracking
Face detection AF can track a person's face in the frame and maintain focus on them.
Dual Pixel Focus Guide
Provides a graphical guide that represents front/back focus deviation, the rectangle turns green when the subject is in focus, giving full control over a manual focus pull or helps to maintain a critical focus.
A menu function for Autofocus tuning is available that allows the user to define the speed and sensitivity of the AF, providing the ability to set a more natural focus-pull, with greater flexibility and control.
